Tina Davis and Jason Doe, two seniors at Cooper High School, recently earned $100,000 in scholarship money to attend the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) next fall.

Tina, who was awarded $52,000, hopes to explore the animation program at MCAD. She was influenced by the cartoons she grew up watching, and has embraced using digital illustration through the Adobe Creative Suite, in addition to traditional methods.

Jason, who was awarded $48,000, has been drawing his entire life, he says. He focuses on painting and watercolors, and hopes to open his own tattoo shop or art gallery in the future.

Heidi Miller, the department chair of visual arts at Cooper, an International Baccalaureate World School which was ranked seventh out of high schools from the state of Minnesota in Newsweek's "Beating the Odds List of Top 500 High Schools,” said many people don’t realize how competitive art schools are to get into, let alone earn scholarships to, and she sees big things in the future for Tina and Jason.

“Make sure you remember the names of these two students – you are going to hear about great things from both of them,” Miller said.
