Cooper Students head to MSHSL State Speech Tournament

Congratulations goes out to Cooper Freshman Tessa Lenoch and Cooper Senior Connor Brynteson for qualifying for the MSHSL State Speech Tournament on April 28, 2023.

Tessa qualified as the Section 5AA Runner-Up in Serious Prose Interpretation. This is Tessa's first trip to the MSHSL State Tournament. In Serious Prose, students perform a memorized ten-minute selection of a published prose. Tessa's piece is a short story from the book When the Messenger is Hot, by Elizabeth Crane.

Connor qualified by taking 3rd place in Extemporaneous Speaking. This is Connor's second trip the MSHSL State Speech Tournament. In Extemporaneous Speaking, students draw a prompt in question form and have 30 minutes to prepare a memorized seven-minute speech with multiple sources. Topics can vary between International and Domestic topics. For example, a question might be: Will international support for Ukraine wane as the war drags on?

Nautica Flowers and DJ Brynteson are the Cooper speech coaches.

The MSHSL Speech State Tournament will be held on Friday, April 28 at Eastview High School.

Congratulations to Tessa and Connor!
